Arthur Jeffes re-formed his father’s project, the Penguin Café Orchestra, in 2007 in an effort to maintain the group's original mix of world music while putting a fresh and unique spin on it.  Jeffes and musicians now produce music with a dreamlike quality that finds a way to lift spirits with dynamic new influences.  Penguin Café  garnered huge audiences at the 2010 Prom so come enjoy to this wonderful group at the Cheltenham Music Festival!

Natural Soundscapes of Britain | Southbank Centre | 22 April- 4 September


Experience the magic of Britain’s landscape as you listen to the array of six soundscapes created by Marcus Coates and Geoff Sample.  Using speakers and audio tracks these two artists create an audio experience that ranges from spring birdsongs to winter mating calls.  Prepare to be amazed as the concrete terraces and walkways of the Southbank Centre create an tour through Britian’s seasons and landscapes all day long and for free!


 

 

 

 

Ella Bella Ballerina LiveParabola Arts Centre | 9 July


As another exciting part of the Cheltenham Music Festival this weekend, children ages 6-10 can have the wonderful opportunity to watch James Mayhew, author and illustrator of Ella Bella Ballerina, bring to life two of Tchaikovsky’s masterpieces.  While a string quartet plays sections of Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake, Mayhew will paint on stage and describe the stories that inspired the music.

Summer of Songs | Southbank Centre | 10 July

Make music for a great cause this weekend at the Southbank Centre! The British charity Afghanaid has been working to help those in Afghanistan for almost 30 years and is celebrating their efforts by presenting performances by experienced folk, world, and jazz musicians. Some of the line-up includes The Foxglove Trio and Anna Goodwin. Feel free to listen and even play along with music from around the world in one of Southbank’s beach huts from 1pm- 4pm.  Contact 02070650825 if you’d like to help out as a volunteer or performer!
