This month in Muso. None other than the LMM Award Holder, Jennifer Pike, dominating the front page. With the release of her new album, of violin sonatas by Franck, Debussy and Ravel, she gives an account of her thrilling music career. Discussed in the interview was Jennifer's achievements from her winning the BBC young musician competition at just 12 years old to her debut appearance at the Proms at the of age 15, and now having two albums released. Particular credit is given to her involvement with LMM's Bridge Project, being an inspirational figure to hundreds of young kids, teaching them to aim high and translating to them a love of classical music. This week phase 2 of Bridge Project kicked off with a vengeance! Nearly a third of the year 3 children at both schools have elected to try new instruments for a year. They will be given the same high quality, fun-filled tuition as our young violinists and, starting this summer, will be adding to the orchestral sound towards which we are slowly (but surely!) building.... read more

Part of my life involves visiting a wide variety of different schools across the country to give workshops with my group, Painting Music. But I can safely say we have never been invited to anything quite as vibrant, exciting and enjoyable as Bridge Fest 2010, held at Jessop Primary School on 9 July. The day opened with a whole school assembly, where everyone got a taste of just what was in store during the day. As well as Painting Music there were brass players from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, singing workshops with the incredibly enthusiastic Jess and Aidan, RCM clarinettists brought in to entertain the nursery children, and, to top it all off, some West African Drumming!...... read more
