Today was my first day encountering the happenings of the Bridge Project. I’ve been working behind the scenes at LMM for a week, so I was excited to finally see what kind of musical talent goes on in the schools. This morning I got to sit in on a Year 3 group lesson as they practiced for their first ever performance for a group of parents and children. The kids were plucking away at the violins, bouncing out of their seats in excitement for the next note they were going to learn. Two boys got to solo in front of the group with piano accompaniment and were so proud as they took their deep bows. As they put on their green shirts to walk to the ‘concert hall’, as part of a Bridge to the Community event, you could tell butterflies were beginning to multiply and mix in for the first time with their excitement. ... read more
My week got off to a really happy start this Monday – and it’s all down to the fabulous Seals and Penguins (Year 1s of Jessop Primary School to you and I) and their parents. It’ s not easy to get straight into the singing vibe on a drizzly Monday morning after half term, but it didn’t seem to pose any problems for this group. With so much in the news recently about library closures it was great to see a group of Year 3’s from Jessop Primary enjoy their visit to Westminster Music Library last Friday. Well, the big day we have all been working towards finally arrived and the children from Jessop and Ashmole finally got the chance to perform for the Mayor,of London ,Boris Johnson. This visit, which took place on Monday 7 June, was hugely significant for the pupils and their teachers. It gave the Bridge Project an enormous publicity boost, but more importantly, the event reinforced all the positive musical attitudes which the students have been building during the past two years.... read more
