World premiere of LMM commission

We have been delighted with the hugely positive response to Mark Bowden’s Five Memos, which we commissioned for LMM Award Holder Hyeyoon Park. The World Premiere took place on 10 May at Newbury Spring Festival with celebrated pianist Huw Watkins. Audience members described the work as vibrant, virtuosic and incredibly enjoyable. We agree! Each of the five movements, inspired by Italian author Italo Calvino’s Six Memos for the Next Millennium, encapsulated the themes of Lightness, Quickness, Exactitude, Visibility, and Multiplicity perfectly and beautifully.

It was a treat to hear the new work again so soon with Hyeyoon and pianist Roderick Chadwick on 12 May at its London premiere at the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art.

“It was such a joy to be able to give the first performances of Mark's ‘Five Memos’ and to premiere a piece for the first time ever! It was such a wonderful experience, and I look forward to more again soon. It really feels wonderful to be an LMM Award Holder.”
